It comes with 12 pictures, each showing an activity or sight that families might enjoy during their stay at Daisy Chain – from enjoying lakeside views to spotting different birds or taking part in fun activities. Parents can choose how long they want the countdown to last by selecting the number of pictures they use. Whether you want a full 12-day countdown or something shorter, it’s completely up to you.
To use it:
- Print out the 12 pictures.
- Attach them vertically to a string or ribbon.
- Each day, your child can cut off one picture until there are no days left and it’s time for your holiday!
The Pictures Included in the Holiday Countdown Calendar
Each picture in the countdown calendar has been chosen to reflect the experiences families can enjoy during their stay at Daisy Chain. From the heron often seen standing by the lake fishing, to the friendly mallards that sometimes come right up to the house, these images capture what a holiday on the Lower Mill Estate is like. There’s a picture of a swan – often seen gracefully gliding across the lakes and a chicken. Families can visit chickens in Mill Village on the Lower Mill Estate, just a 5 minute walk from Daisy Chain. For outdoor fun, we’ve included images of playgrounds, scooters, and even a Canadian canoe, highlighting the activities that make Daisy Chain a perfect spot for a memorable holiday. And of course, we couldn’t forget daisies, a nod to the name of the house, as well as bulrushes and a bridge, perfect for a game of Pooh Sticks!

Where the Idea Came From
The idea for this holiday countdown came from the brilliant Sophie David, who shared a birthday countdown idea on her inspiring Instagram page @littlehappylearners. Sophie’s version was such a hit with families, and it got us thinking – why not create something similar for a holiday? After all, what better way to keep the excitement alive and manage those endless ‘how many sleeps?’ questions?
What a brilliant idea! We've got a trip to the Cotswolds booked for next month and my 5-year-old has already started with the "how many sleeps" questions. This countdown calendar is perfect - I love that it's customizable so we can start it whenever we want, and the pictures showing actual activities at Daisy Chain will get her even more excited about what we'll be doing. The heron and mallards especially caught my eye since she's obsessed with birds right now. Plus, it's such a nice touch that the images reflect real things families can experience there.
