Model village appears on Google Street View

Bouton on the Water model village visit from Lower Mill Estate

Bourton-on-the-Water Model Village has become the first model village to appear on Google Street View. To take a peek around the village go to http://bit.ly/bourton

The model village is a one ninth scale replica of the actual village as it was in the 1930’s. Built out of local Cotswold limestone, it took local craftsmen 5 years to build and was officially opened on the Coronation Day of King George VII and Queen Elizabeth in 1937. The picturesque model village is the first ever to have received Grade II listed status thanks to its authentic portrayal of Cotswolds style. The village has churches, a running River Windrush and the stone bridges which are so characteristic of Bourton-on-the-Water.

The model village is also famous for its miniature bonsai type tree, both deciduous and evergreen, which are carefully pruned to keep them to an appropriate scale. The model village is open all year round – check the website for details.

Cotswold Lavender

Cotswold Lavender

Now is the perfect time to visit the beautiful fields at Cotswold Lavender, on the outskirts of the village of Snowshill. The lavender is looking stunning (there is quite a brief window to see the lavender looking this good before it is harvested). A wonderful outing with the family on a gorgeous English summer's day!
