Orchids in the Cotswolds

Orchids in the Cotswolds

May is such a lovely month – and made all the more beautiful by all the orchids popping up around the Estate and at Clattinger Farm – next door to the Lower Mill Estate.

Birdwatching at Cotswold Water Park – Little Egret

Birdwatching at Cotswold Water Park – Little Egret

At this time of year Little Egrets are in abundance throughout Cotswold Water Park. On Saturday, 18 were reported as having been seen on one of the lakes. The Little Egret is a small white heron, which has attractive white plumes on it's crest, back and chest. The Little Egret has striking black legs with yellow feet (although you may only see his feet if he is flying as much of the rest of the time he will be standing in water!).

Little Egrets are relatively new to the UK. They first appeared in significant numbers in 1989 and first bred in 1996. It is now at home in many locations in southern England, both as a breeding species and a winter visitor.

Damselflies

Damselflies

Today is Day Five of my #naturephotochallenge for which +Matthew Lambley kindly nominated me. I've really enjoyed taking part, so thank you Matthew! As Daisy Chain is beside a lake, during the summer we enjoy seeing hundreds of damselflies. They don't always sit this still for a photo! I hope to take a photograph of one with dew on it's back one day!

I'd like to nominate my google+ friend +Isla Canela Apartment Rental Andalucia Spain as she's usually up for a challenge, but only if she'd like to!

Sunrise

Today is Day four of my #naturephotochallenge for which +Matthew Lambley kindly nominated me. Sunrise is my favourite part of the day so I couldn't complete this challenge without posting one sunrise photo! I usually post sunrises on a Sunday but I've made an exception! This one is taken looking across Somerford Lagoon, a lake in Cotswolds Water Park.

I'd like to nominate my google+ friend +Sitges Barcelona Holiday Rental Apartment – Spain but only if she'd like to – no pressure!

Reflections

Reflections

Today is Day three of my #naturephotochallenge for which +Matthew Lambley kindly nominated me. On Monday we had a beautifully blue crisp sunny day which reminded me of this photo which I took earlier in the year. It is taken on a lake near Daisy Chain on the Lower Mill Estate in the Cotswolds. I love it when the water is so still that you can't really tell which way up the photo should be!

I'd like to nominate my google+ friend +Holiday Cottage, Steyning, near Brighton, England but only if she'd like to – no pressure!

Long tailed tit

Long tailed tit

Today is Day two in my #naturephotochallenge for which +Matthew Lambley kindly nominated me. Yesterday was a beautifully crisp blue day and when we went out for a walk in the afternoon there was a flock of long tailed tits enjoying the berries on this tree. They were quite tricky to photograph as although the tree has lost its leaves it is still thick with branches which kept getting in the way! Anyway, this was my best photo! This particular bird was busy preening a lot of the time.

I'd like to nominate my good google+ friend +Pescadero, CA Vacation Cottage but only if she'd like too and if she has time (she might be too busy fighting off the heron from her fish pond!)

Thank you to +Lecrín Valley Villa Rental Granada Spain. for taking up yesterday's challenge. Do pop across and have a look at her #naturephotographychallenge posts
