Bampton village doubles for the fictional Downton Village in the incredibly popular TV drama Downton Abbey, which is viewed in over 200 territories around the world. It is in Bampton that the village scenes are filmed and many dramas have taken place on its streets. Churchgate House in the village is used as the Crawley family Home, the old Grammar School building serves as Downton Hospital while St Mary's Church has been host to a range of events in the drama including weddings, funerals, christenings, and even a jilting at the altar!
