Aerial Photos Of The Lower Mill Estate

One of the lovely things about Daisy Chain is the abundance of birds to be seen. Herons, Egrets, Grebes, Terns, Swallows and Kingfishers to name just a few.  But have you ever wondered what the Lower Mill Estate looks like to them?  Some recent guests shared these great pictures taken from a drone.

Swooping over Somerford Lagoon, Clearwater Lake is straight ahead.  To the left is Howells Mere with Swillbrook Lakes beyond. To the right beyond the green, the tennis court and the Mill Village pool is Spinney Lake, edged on the near side by the new houses with their green eco roofs.

Zooming down towards Daisy Chain you can see some people sitting on the grass enjoying the sunshine and pick out the barbecue on the lower deck – perhaps they’ll be wheeling that out in a minute to cook up some burgers and kebabs by the lakeside! That belt of reeds doesn’t just look great in the sunrise photos that guests take from their bedrooms, it’s also home to many birds – and sometimes a murmuration of starlings lands there during the winter.  Just over to the left in the corner of the lake is the handy place for slipping the canoe into the water.

Here she is, as seen by the birds, slipping quietly across the calm waters of the lagoon. Where are they off to? Round the island before breakfast? Paddling to the reed beds to see how many different species of birds they can count? Heading across to the narrow strip of land where they can portage across and canoe on Flagham Fen to see if they can spot the beavers in the water just a few metres away from them? Or just enjoying the simple pleasure of being afloat, the freedom, the ripple of the water, being captain of your own boat, the satisfaction of learning to make the canoe go where you want with the ‘J stroke’ (turning the paddle at the end of the stroke to act as a rudder so you don’t have to keep switching the paddle from side to side). It’s just great being out on the water … I wonder if they can smell those burgers cooking yet?

We had the hard job of test driving the new barbecue at Daisy Chain over the weekend – it was tough, but somebody had to do it! It did a great job, happily feeding 11 hungry mouths, and producing the best chicken and vegetable kebabs ever! While waiting for the food to cook you can sit on the lakeside, or go for a quick paddle in the Canadian Canoe…you just need to remember to come back before the food all disappears! We’ve also fitted an additional fridge, so there’s plenty of space for your meat, salad…and a few drinks too…

We’ve been having such fabulous weather over the last couple of weeks it made us think of this brilliant photograph of the Lower Mill Estate in Cotswold Water Park where Daisy Chain is. Daisy Chain is set on the lakeside with perfect uninterrupted views across Somerford Lagoon, the largest lake on the Estate. Guests can enjoy using the Canadian Canoe to explore and enjoy a different view of the wildlife. There are lots of peaceful walks to enjoy as well as cycle rides and then there is the ArtSpa where you can take relaxation to the next level. Indoor and outdoor heated pools, a sauna, steam room and Spa treatments. Hmmm….holidays.

A fabulous photograph of the Lower Mill Estate in Cotswold Water Park where Daisy Chain is. Cotswold Water Park itself covers an area of over 40 square miles and is made up of 150 lakes. You can see just a few of them here! The Lower Mill Estate is a private nature reserve and as such is a fantastic area for exploring – there are beavers and otters, kingfishers and egrets and that’s just for starters. When you’ve been out for a day exploring you can arrive back and pop to the Spa for a swim, or for the energetic enjoy a game of tennis first – there are two courts to choose from. While Mum and Dad are playing tennis they can watch the children enjoying the playgound and trampoline – or maybe they will chose to play football on the new 5-a-side pitch. Everything is so close…and yet Daisy Chain enjoys superb uninterrupted views across the largest lake on the estate, Somerford Lagoon. It makes a fabulous location for a fun filled family holiday.

Let’s Celebrate

Let’s Celebrate

One of the main reasons that our guests book a holiday at Daisy Chain is for a family celebration. This year Daisy Chain has hosted 21st, 35th, 40th, 60th birthday celebrations as well as Wedding Anniversaries. Sleeping 9 in 5 bedrooms there is lots of flexibility for different ages. This review from some 2014 guests sums up their experience well:
“We stayed at Daisy Chain for my Dad’s 60th birthday. There was a mix of age groups and interests, and the property met each of our needs. It was clean, modern, spacious and the views over the lake were simply stunning. The owners had obviously gone to great lengths to ensure that our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They were also always quick to reply to any queries I had leading up to our getaway and it was reassuring to know they were only ever a phone call away during our long weekend (not that we had any issues). The Lower Mill Estate onsite spa was of course an added bonus and a great contingency plan for those rainy days. Just a two minute walk from Daisy Chain, it was fantastic to be able to go swimming or visit the sauna whenever we liked.
If you’re looking for a place to stay with a group of friends or family, young and old, somewhere to get away from it all to enjoy each other’s company, Daisy Chain is the perfect retreat. We’ll definitely be returning!

What shall we do now?

Football pitch

How often does your heart sink when you hear those words from your children, or worse, “I’m bored.” There is no need for any such statements from children during a holiday with Cotswold Family Holidays. There is so much to keep them occupied. This is the newly built all weather football pitch…which is right next to a trampoline…which is right next to a tennis court…which is right next to a playground…which is right next to the Spa with heated indoor and outdoor pools. That should cover most bases for most ages of children. The only question now is which one will you use first!
