One of the lovely things about Daisy Chain is the abundance of birds to be seen. Herons, Egrets, Grebes, Terns, Swallows and Kingfishers to name just a few. But have you ever wondered what the Lower Mill Estate looks like to them? Some recent guests shared these great pictures taken from a drone.
Swooping over Somerford Lagoon, Clearwater Lake is straight ahead. To the left is Howells Mere with Swillbrook Lakes beyond. To the right beyond the green, the tennis court and the Mill Village pool is Spinney Lake, edged on the near side by the new houses with their green eco roofs.
Zooming down towards Daisy Chain you can see some people sitting on the grass enjoying the sunshine and pick out the barbecue on the lower deck – perhaps they’ll be wheeling that out in a minute to cook up some burgers and kebabs by the lakeside! That belt of reeds doesn’t just look great in the sunrise photos that guests take from their bedrooms, it’s also home to many birds – and sometimes a murmuration of starlings lands there during the winter. Just over to the left in the corner of the lake is the handy place for slipping the canoe into the water.
Here she is, as seen by the birds, slipping quietly across the calm waters of the lagoon. Where are they off to? Round the island before breakfast? Paddling to the reed beds to see how many different species of birds they can count? Heading across to the narrow strip of land where they can portage across and canoe on Flagham Fen to see if they can spot the beavers in the water just a few metres away from them? Or just enjoying the simple pleasure of being afloat, the freedom, the ripple of the water, being captain of your own boat, the satisfaction of learning to make the canoe go where you want with the ‘J stroke’ (turning the paddle at the end of the stroke to act as a rudder so you don’t have to keep switching the paddle from side to side). It’s just great being out on the water … I wonder if they can smell those burgers cooking yet?
This week we have had our first misty autumnal morning. Mornings like this are wonderful at Daisy Chain. Looking out on the mist lying on the lake is magical. The view gradually appears revealling the beauty of the lake. Our guests who stayed at Daisy Chain last week wrote, "*The views across the lake are superb.*" We have to agree!
Why not make the most of the misty mornings and beautiful colours that autumn brings. We have got lots of midweek (Monday – Friday) availablity this autumn. Pop across to http://cotswoldfamilyholidays.com/enquire-and-book/ to check our calendar and get in touch.
The photo is your view from the master bedroom. What are you waiting for?
It was lovely to pop into Daisy Chain this week and read the comments that some of our guests over the summer have written in our guest book, "The house facilities are perfect for families – you really have thought of everything. We will definitely be back" Reading comments like that makes it all worth it!
This photo was taken on Friday at Daisy Chain cotswoldfamilyholidays.com – there has been some lovely sun between the rain this week!
I couldn’t let Wimbledon fortnight pass without posting about tennis on the Lower Mill Estate. There are 2 tennis courts to choose from, both less than 5 minutes walk from Daisy Chain. A great way to spend time with family and friends…and when you need a break how about making some shadow pictures!
One of the great things about a holiday at Daisy Chain on the Lower Mill Estate is that there really is something for everyone. The ArtSpa is a multi-million pound award winning family spa, just a few minutes walk from Daisy Chain. Whilst some of the group make use of the pools, gym, sauna or steam room, others can indulge in Spa treatments. The tranquil treatment rooms are gently scented by essential oils and a wide range of Spa treatments are available, from hot stone massage to facials and body treatments.
We love having great feedback from guests staying at Daisy Chain on the Lower Mill Estate and seeing their photos too. Recent guests who stayed in May have just written a lovely review for us and sent us this stunning photo. The ripples were created by a diving bird. We love standing on the balcony at Daisy Chain watching the grebes and tufted ducks diving.
A lot of the guests we have staying at Daisy Chain on the Lower Mill Estate are extended families, but sometimes we have groups of couples staying. We have just replaced the bar stools in the kitchen, and it makes a lovely spot to enjoy breakfast.
We've got some midweek availability in the Autumn – why not make the most of the peace and quiet of children being back in school and plan a break in the Cotswolds? Check our availability at cotswoldfamilyholidays.com/enquire-and-book/
There are 2 tennis courts on the Lower Mill Estate which our guests are able to use. Both are less than 5 minutes walk from Daisy Chain. There are so many activities that families can enjoy together during their Cotswold family holiday and this is one of them. A game of tennis is a great way to spend fun time with the children…or for the more competitive amongst us to work up a sweat! Have a look at our interactive map to see where the tennis courts are http://cotswoldfamilyholidays.com/lower-mill-estate/ …and to see how easy it is to pop into the ArtSpa for a quick swim before heading back to Daisy Chain.
Many thanks to recent guests for this photo – we love it!
Last weekend two rare blue sharks were spotted leaping out of the water in the heated outdoor pool at the ArtSpa on the Lower Mill Estate. They seemed to be very friendly and joined in with the family games – they were even tame enough to take the children for rides around the pool Guests at Daisy Chain enjoy free use of the indoor and outdoor pools at the ArtSpa, and their parents enjoy making use of the Sauna, Steam Room and Gym too.
N.B. No animals or children were harmed in taking this photo!
