Blackberry season in the Cotswolds

Blackberry season in the Cotswolds

Now is the perfect time to go blackberrying and enjoy collecting nature's harvest. Blackberries are ripening by the day. Why not go out with the children and enjoy collecting them. Don't forget to find a long stick so that you can pull those really juicy ones down which are otherwise out of reach! There are plenty of blackberries to be found on the Lower Mill Estate by guests staying at Daisy Chain. How do you eat your blackberries – crumble…pie or something else?

Harvesting the hedgerows!

Harvesting the hedgerows!

We had a lovely afternoon harvesting blackberries from the hedgerows around Daisy Chain. There are still a lot around – beautifully ripe and just asking to be picked! We also found some apples so were able to enjoy blackberry and apple crumble for supper. The only question is do you have cream, ice cream or custard with your crumble?

Now is a great time to get out into the countryside and harvest some blackberries. What a fab activity for the whole family to enjoy! My challenge is getting home without the children eating all the blackberries on the way! How about making a blackberry and apple crumble when you get home?

Here's a link to the Hairy Biker's version of this much enjoyed crumble! http://bit.ly/bandacrumble
