Westonbirt, the National Arboretum is world famous for the autumnal colour explosion from its Japanese maples. The arboretum is home to the UK's national collection of Japanese maples which produce a fiery display of orange and red. Wherever you go in the arboretum the amazing autumnal colours are superb. Pick up a copy of their autumn trail map to find the best of the season's offering.

Batsford Arboretum hold an annual 'Autumn Colour Spectacular' from Saturday 4th October – Wednesday 19th November. The most impressive colours in the arboretum come from the maples and cherries which light up with shades from pink to yellow. The liquidamber tree with it's multicoloured leaves varying from deep purple to pale gold is another must see. Call Batsford's autumn colour hotline on 01386 701441 to check the colours progress before travelling.

What's your favourite recipe for blackberries?

What's your favourite recipe for blackberries?

Now is a great time to get out into the countryside and harvest some blackberries. What a fab activity for the whole family to enjoy! My challenge is getting home without the children eating all the blackberries on the way! How about making a blackberry and apple crumble when you get home?

Here's a link to the Hairy Biker's version of this much enjoyed crumble! http://bit.ly/bandacrumble
