Once in a Blue Moon

The modern day definition of a Blue Moon is when a full moon occurs twice in a calendar month. The lunar cycle is 29.5 days so this can only happen when the first full moon falls right at the beginning of a month. That is exactly what is happening today – the last full moon was on July 2nd and today we have the second full moon. The last time this occured was in 2012 and it won't happen again until January 2018.

We have been enjoying beautifully clear evening skies this week and the moon has been looking spectacular. We always enjoy watchint the moon from the balcony at Daisy Chain and seeing it reflected in the lake. I took this photo a couple of evenings ago – I'm looking forward to seeing the Blue Moon this evening!
